Sports competitions this academic year were kickstarted by an event Symbiosis has never seen before- The Symbiosis Premier League. Our freshly elected student council wasted no time in organising this basketball and football event in collaboration with Ravi Sir, and the outcome was a major victory and fun-filled for everyone who was involved, although just a little more for the winning team.
SPL is an intra-school competition that was introduced in IGCSE this October. Completely independent of the annual inter-house matches- SPL is not house wise. Instead, four chosen captains led their own teams:
• The Black Knights
Captain: Mahir Krishnan and Tia Advani
• The Blue Bombers
Captain: Sanath Matwankar and Anya Baphna
• Red Devils
Captain: Kushal Pai and Garimaa Kariyaa
• The Green Machines
Captain: Raunaq Sodhi and Parriee Parmar
The teams were each assigned a teacher who acted as their manager and given a budget of 10 lakhs to create their teams. During CCA on Wednesday 23rd October, an auction for players was held, complete with labelled photographs with prices for each player.
SPL games are league based, so all the teams played one another on Friday the 25th, and the teams that gained the maximum points proceeded to the finals.
All the participants played enthusiastically and worked as a team, putting aside the fact that they were from different houses and grades. The Dark Knights maintained a blazing streak by winning every basketball match and the Green Machines and Blue Bombers were closely tied their overall football points. Ultimately, the SPL cup was bagged by the Blue Bombers!
