The Coronavirus has caused millions to be quarantined and restricted to their homes in the last few months. The large number of people facing issues regarding their work include musicians, who have had to cancel hundreds of events and tours they had planned for 2020. However, Travis Scott decided to take a different approach. Recently the American rapper collaborated with Fortnite to hold an astronomical live in game event that shook the musical and gaming world. Not only was the whole concert available to the world to watch, it was replayed in game multiple times to adjust for time zones and over multiple days to allow millions to attend. According to Epic Games (the creators of Fortnite) the event amassed 27.7 million unique players that participated live 45.8 million times across the 5 days when the event took place. Furthermore, multiple skins and rewards were given to players for free to celebrate the release of Travis Scott's new song, ‘The Scotts’, which premiered at the event.
The show began with players gathering at a preset stage in game. Many expect a tiny Travis Scott to appear on stage and perform his song before the event would end. However, a few minutes later a huge planet shaped sphere had appeared with booming speakers attached. The event began as the speaker played ‘Sicko Mode’, the artist’s top selling song. As the beat dropped, a huge shard crashed in the ground throwing all players in the air and spawning a gigantic figure of Travis Scott. Players across the island could see Travis Scott hopping around and singing to the beat. Streamers across the world watched with excitement as players flew around a huge Travis Scott figure. Players squealed in exhilaration as Travis grabbed two orbs of light and smashed them together setting the sky ablaze with streaks of orange and red lights. The beat transformed into ‘Stargazing’ with the beat drops leaving players in awe. However, this event had just begun. Players and Travis would continue teleporting through universes as songs like ‘Goosebumps’, ‘Highest in the room’, and ‘Like a lightbulb’ blasted loudly. Players are thrown around in the air, underwater with sea creatures and even in a world with only neon with each beat drop and change in song. The event ended with Travis Scott launching all players in space. All players fly above the clouds and into the horizon as Travis Scott appears in an alien costume, riding a planet surrounded by moons and asteroids. He proceeds to walk across the speaker planet which explodes and sends all players in a Star Wars like lightspeed scene. As players approach the light a butterfly made of glass appears that has been the symbol of big events in Fortnite.
Players were sent back to the island to conclude a unique and extravagant premiere of one of the biggest online gaming events ever.
