I think it’s safe to say that 2020 was a bit of a turnaround when it came to sports. However, 2021 gave us a chance to compensate for that. A major example of this is the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. Due to the covid crisis, the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 had to be postponed to 2021, since the crisis was expected to die down. In fact, it did and gave rise to one of the most memorable Olympic and Paralympic games ever. Here are a few instances….
Mutaz Barshim and Gianmarco Tamberi agree to share the gold after they were approached about a high-jump tie-breaker jump-off. The Qatari and Italian high jumpers were tied for the gold after the final round. Barshim approached the officials and asked if it was possible to split the medal, and his wish was granted, setting a specimen of some of the finest sportsmanship the Olympic stage has ever seen.
India erupts with joy as Neeraj Chopra broke the 100-year losing streak and brought home India’s first Olympic gold medal in athletics in 100 years by winning the Javelin Throw.
Quan Hongchan, the 14-year-old Chinese diver, alters history as the youngest diver to attain perfect scores while scoring an Olympic gold. She scored two perfect 10 scores as she plucked the gold in the women’s 10m platform dive, proving that age is not an obstacle to perfection.

Although we couldn’t get an Olympics out of 2020, it’s safe to say that the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 packed a powerful punch in 2021.
