Oleksandr Usyk’s fight for freedom

At the age of 35 years, the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk is a 20-0 fighter who holds the WBA (World Boxing Association), IBF (International Boxing Federation), IBO (International boxing association), and WBO (World Boxing Association) heavyweight titles. On the 20th of July 2022 we saw the Ukrainian fighter go to war with Anthony Joshua in a 12-round action-packed bout, Usyk won via split decision and retained all his titles, however, this was not the only war that Usyk was involved in this year.


On the 24th of February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine due to political disputes causing havoc in the county, and as of today the war has cost Ukraine $108.3 million in damages and has killed more than 10,000 people. The Ukrainian fighter took his war outside the ring and fought side by side with the Ukrainian army on the frontlines of Kyiv, the Ukrainian champion was pictured around Kyiv holding a gun and fighting for his country, and after a month of fighting in the war, Usyk moved back to Poland to prepare for his rematch with Anthony Joshua which took place on the 20th of July 2022. However this did not mean that Usyk was done fighting for Ukraine, Oleksandr dedicated his victory over Anthony Joshua to his country Ukraine and to the soldiers fighting for the freedom of the country, Usyk also bought the streaming rights for his fight against Joshua and gifted it to Ukraine so his fellow countrymen could watch the fight for free, he even raised $2million from NFTs to aid his country and the citizens residing in it. Oleksandr Usyk has shown the world that he is not only a warrior in the ring but also in the real world, Usyk is a symbol of strength and power in Ukraine due to his contribution to the fight against Russia. Usyk seeks to bring freedom to Ukraine and justice to the victims of the war.
