UFO, What Do We Know?

It’s often easy to draw the bounds between the real and the fantastic. The werewolves, the vampires, the ghosts, the cryptids, and the aliens have for time immemorial been swept under the category of imaginative conspiracy; they are mere stories latched only by personal witness. They have been fantastic. April 27th 2020, marked the day that one of these urban legends finally surfed into the boundary of between realism and fantasy, into the area of fact and into subjects of concern: Aliens.

Unidentified flying objects - or UFOs – first notably caught the public eye back in 1947. A man, his son, and their dog allegedly saw six “donut shaped” flying saucers during a boating trip and were caught directly in the debris path of one of them when it crashed. The son hurt his arm and the dog, sadly, did not survive the encounter. The man and one of his colleagues both confirmed the existence of this crash site and were apparently approached by two men in black suits from the government that knew more about the crash than they should’ve, and instructed the two witnesses to remain silent. This event sparked several pop culture phenomena including the ‘Men in Black’ series and even caused the US government to launch a scientific investigation known as ‘Project Blue Book’ that unfortunately proved inconclusive, but it is suspected that the has pentagon continued to launch several more investigations even until the current day, and all this research has become suddenly very relevant.

In more recent times, three highly controversial UFO videos have been leaked, one in 2007 and two in 2017. These three videos feature US military aircrafts tracking UFOs on routine missions on grainy, but convincing footage. These UFOs match the common description of previous sightings and are clearly operation pieces of machinery that are not naturally occurring. Naturally, many had suspected that these videos were fakes and conclusive evidence on such elusive topics are generally met with this valid skepticism; however, on April 27th, the Pentagon released a public statement that detailed the authenticity of these three videos. The US government has, for certain, documented imagery UFOs.

This is not official confirmation of aliens, but it eliminates the impossibility. That ship could very well be an aircraft owned by an entity or country whose data the US is not privy to, but I would personally stray from that assumption. I’d justify my stance by saying that the fact that no one has stepped up to claim ownership of the object for a month works highly against the idea that a known entity is responsible. My second argument is the aerodynamically odd design. Being a physics enthusiast, I find the UFO’s shape and lack of sound bizarre. The UFO has no visible wings and flies at an angle that provides little air lift from its shape- even momentarily flying nose down, an angle that should physically cause it to drop; in fact, a very bizarre factor is that the shape is more consistent with a theoretical vacuum model of ship, where air resistance plays no role. Even the lack of fuel combustion or engine sound is very oddball. This type of flight would be absolutely revolutionary in the field of physics and no human to my knowledge has yet accomplished this.

This UFO confirmation raises serious questions on a cultural and scientific level, but even though the only question we can truly answer is whether its existence is indeed fact, there are still reasons to keep our attention trained on the questions about the future. Why now? These videos were released all the way back in 2007 and in 2017, and there is no explicit reason that can tell us why this confirmation came so out of the blue, figuring out the reason for the public statement could have tangible implications on the future. The reason I say that past instances are relevant now is that government authentication is very real possibility, we could see cases like the men in black or blue book events become the next confirmations of evidence. It even brings the idea that all of this could be the precursor to a recent, and possibly panic-inducing discovery that required the public to be informed about slowly and cautiously. These next few months could shape up to be very interesting, and this statement sets a VERY curious precedent.
